PPL Township
Paradeep Phosphates Ltd (PPL) is one of the biggest fertilizer plants in India, spread over 3300 acres of land, with captive berth, dedicated rail head and a beautiful township having 1800 quarters for its employees. PPL Township is situated 4 kilometers prior to Paradeep Port town. Visitors have to get down at the PPL Township bus stop, if they are travelling by bus from Cuttack and have to take an auto or other private mode to reach PPL Township. PPL Township is located about 11kms away from Paradip. The township was built in 1981 to accommodate employees of Paradeep Phosphates Ltd. Paradeep Phosphates Ltd. was incorporated in 1981 as a joint venture between Governments of India and Nauru[1]. Later on, in the year 1993, the Republic of Nauru disinvested its entire equity stake to the Government of India and the appellant-company became a wholly owned Public Sector Undertaking of the Government of India having its corporate and registered office at Bhubaneswar. Following continuous losses, the government divested its stake in the company in 2002. At present, the Government of India holds 19.55 per cent of shares while 80.45 per cent shares are held by Zuari Maroc Phosphates pvt Ltd, a joint venture between the Adventz group company, Zuari Agro Chemicals Ltd and Maroc Phosphore S.A [1].
Temple for Aiswarya Ayyappa situated at PPL Township is a popular tourist attraction for locals [2]. The township has a DAV[3] Public School, which was set up in 1988 in collaboration with Paradeep Phosphates Limited [4]. PPL Township can be reached by rail and by road. There is a railway station nearer to the PPL Township Main gate. Express and passenger trains are running in either direction from Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Paradeep three times in a day. There are weekly trains to Vishakapatnam and Kolkata too.
