PSAV (Methodology)

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Perceive-Select-Act-Validate is a set of design principles, it is a high productivity integration to the age old design method. The popular application of PSAV Design principle are witnessed in agile research and design decision making in human–computer interaction design. PSAV design principles enable designers to analyse, validate and produce user centred human machine interaction for catering state of the art user experience.

The methodology provides a model matrix consisting four quadrant to arrange process steps, interaction steps, user touch points, features and functionalities as well as other interactive design elements.[1]

The method was invented by an Indian design researcher Abhijeet Shukla in 2018. He is an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur].[2]

PSAV method is in its evolution stage, research and studies are continuously going on to mature the method.Information flow, user journeys, information architecture in deriving designs for user experience. It also help designers to balance the solution for business requirements and user requirements. PSAV method enables designers in making design decisions to create user centered design solutions.

Key attributes of PSAV method[edit]

Few of the key attributes of the method helpful to user experience designers are as follows-[3][1]

  • Method enables designers and researchers to validate solution concepts in agile mode.
  • Proper use of method enables a designer to minimize the need of high fidelity prototypes (wireframes and visual designs) in testing phase.
  • Method has applicability in bridging designer's mental model to user's mental model, which helps balancing any design solution for user acceptance.
  • Thoughtful application of the method shall save design and development efforts, hence saving time in design operations can be achieved.
  • Method enables designers to aligns user experience design to agile development methodology.
