Accident[edit]
PSA Airlines Flight 2495 or US Airways Express Flight 2495 was a flight from Yeager Airport in Charleston, West Virginia to Charlotte Douglas International Airport in Charlotte, North Carolina that was operated by a CRJ200. While on the ground the First Officer did a walk around and found no anomalies. After checking the weight and fuel the plane weighed about 44,400 pounds meaning that the flaps for takeoff would have to be set at 20 degrees. While taxiing the Captain called for flaps 20. 1 second later the flaps handle was switched from 0 to 8. The First Officer then began the taxi checklist in which he stated that the flaps were set at 8 and the Captain responded "set". A 3:12:05 EST the aircraft was cleared to take off by ATC and then at 3:12:50 the plane began it's take off roll. At 3:13:20 the flaps level moved from 8 to 20 and 1 second the aircraft reached V1 speed where then it can no longer safely abort its takeoff. 2 seconds after the First Officer called V1 the planes master warning sounded and then the flaps and spoilers alarm sounded. At 3:13:25 the pilots began to abort the takeoff after they reached a speed of 143 knots. Finally at 3:13:38 the plane entered the Engineered Materials Arrestor System.
Aftermath[edit]
After the plane was evacuated and taken out of the EMAS the damage was minor and the only things that were damaged were the flaps, the landing gear, and landing gear doors. The aircraft resumed normal service after the accident.
