The EB engine is a family of internal combustion engines made by la Française de Mécanique. Since 2013, it fits in the mid-range cars of the French manufacturer Groupe PSA and is known under the PureTech trade name.

History

« EB » comes from « essence » and « B-Segment ».[1]. PSA would have invested 175 million euros in this engine block[2]

The naturally-aspirated version was launched in 2012 with the Peugeot 208, anticipating the Euro 6.1 emission standard that would take place in September 2014. The turbocharged version "eTHP" was launched in March 2014 with the Peugeot 308 II and Citroën C4 II.

Mid-2015, during the Engine Expo in Stuttgart, the Puretech 1.2 was named "Engine of the Year" in the 1.0–1.4 L category, and took third place overall[3] · [4]. It received first place in its own category again in 2016, 2017 and 2018.

Specifications

This engine is based on an inline-three four-stroke architecture. The block is made of aluminium with 12 valves.
