PSX Extreme

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

PSX Extreme is a video game publication offering news, reviews, features, interviews, previews, and more surrounding the PlayStation property, even going as far as securing the playstation4.com domain to redirect.[1][2] PSX Extreme is the brainchild of Val and Arnold Katayev, who used their performance marketing agency, Poise Media, as its parent.[3][4] It was sold to Canadian online web services company, Sidular, in 2017.[5]

History

PSX Extreme was founded in 1999 by Val and Arnold Katayev as teenagers. The two acted as co-founders and quickly gained notoriety within the PlayStation community thanks to costly giveaways. The site largely maintained a following thanks to its forums, where people posted cheat codes and wallpapers and discussed their opinions on games.

Aaron Thomas joined the site as its editor-in-chief in 2004 and left in 2006 to work for GameSpot.

Ben Dutka joined PSX Extreme as a part-time writer, then moved up as its editor-in-chief after Aaron's departure[6] and ran the site for over 10 years. He later left following the purchase.

Community Features

PSX Extreme offered a forum early in its life, letting anyone with an account create a thread. This has remained a feature of the site since 1999. Technical difficulties led to the site's original threads being lost, and new software was used for the forums.

They also allow for commenting on most any story and are working on getting their screenshot and wallpaper section back up and running.

Controversy

In early 2009, Ben published a post criticizing Edge Magazine's review of Killzone 2. This resulted in Jim Sterling poking fun with a parody post on Destructoid.[7]
