Pablo Moscato
Pablo Moscato (born May 31, 1964 in La Plata, Argentina) is a computer scientist working in fields including bioinformatics, operations research, computational stylistics, personalized medicine and discrete applied mathematics.[1][2][3] He is currently professor of computer science at the University of Newcastle, Australia.
Education
Moscato obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in physics from the University of La Plata in Argentina in 1987.[4] He was a core research member of the Caltech Concurrent Computation Program and completed his PhD at Universidade Estadual de Campinas between 1996 and 2001.
Career
In 1987, Moscato introduced the Memetic algorithm when at the Caltech Concurrent Computation Program led by Geoffrey C. Fox at the California Institute of Technology.[5]
Moscato joined The University of Newcastle, Australia, in 2002, and is currently professor of computer science.[6]

- Founding director for the Newcastle Bioinformatics Initiative (2002-2006)
- Founding co-director for the Priority Research Center for Bioinformatics, Biomarker Discovery and Information-based Medicine (2006-2015)
- Founding co-lead for the Information-based Medicine Program, HMRI (2007-2018)
- Founding member for the Australian–New Zealand Multiple Sclerosis Genetics Consortium
- Elected member of the University of Newcastle Council (2014-2018)[7]
