Pabst Racing
Pabst Racing is an American professional auto racing team currently competing in the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship. Based out of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, Pabst Racing began competing in the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship on a full-time basis in 2010.[1] Presently, Pabst Racing fields entries for Yuven Sundaramoorthy, Hunter McElrea, Colin Kaminsky, and Bruna Tomaselli.[2]
History (2010-2018)
Team owner Augie Pabst III, a former racing driver, began focusing on the Cooper Tires USF2000 National Championship in 1998 following his final season in the division in 1997. Pabst's team competed in IMSA Lites, Porsche GT3 Cup, and vintage racing events before putting their focus on the Cooper Tires USF2000 National Championship ranks starting in 2010.
In the team's first Cooper Tires USF2000 National Championship effort in 2010, Martin Scunio, Tõnis Kasemets, and J.R. Smart competed in select races. Kasemets took a win at the Autobahn Country Club while Smart placed second in the National Class division.[3]
For the 2011 season, Kasemets returned for a pair of races at the Streets of St. Petersburg, placing 13th and 14th, while Smart placed second to new teammate and National Class champion Luca Forgeois.[4]
The organization fielded entries for Dalton Kellett and Shannon McIntosh as full-time competitors for the 2012 Championship Class. Kellett would place 14th while McIntosh tallied an 18th place points finish. Smart was the only returning driver for Pabst Racing as he ranked seventh in the National Class despite skipping the season opener at Sebring International Raceway.[5]
Pabst Racing turned its entire focus on the Championship Class for 2013, retaining Kellett while bringing on Jesse Lazare and Jason Wolfe. Wolfe's consistency resulted in an eighth place finish while Lazare placed 11th and Kellett ranked 16th.[6]
Changes would be in store for the 2014 season as Nico Jamin joined the team starting at the Streets of Toronto alongside teammates Will Owen and Austin Cindric. Despite being with the team for the second half of the year, Jamin logged a ninth place points finish. Owen, who won the first of the two races run that season at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course, ranked 12th while Cindric finished 14th.[7]
In spite of consolidating their Cooper Tires USF2000 National Championship team efforts to two teams in 2015, newcomer Jake Eidson reeled off four wins en route to a second place points finish while Luo Yufeng ranked seventh.[8]
Yufeng returned to the team for 2016 as he would drive alongside teammates Jordan Lloyd and Garth Rickards. The team scored a pair of wins with Rickards and Yufeng sweeping the races at St. Petersburg. Overall, Lloyd led the team's efforts with a fourth place points finish followed by Yufeng in seventh and Rickards in 10th.[9]
A trio of new racers, Rinus VeeKay, Calvin Ming, and Lucas Kohl, represented the Pabst Racing banner in 2017. VeeKay, on the strength of three wins, placed runner-up while Ming and Kohl respectively finished fifth and seventh in the championship standings. As a result of their drivers' strong efforts, Pabst Racing won the team championship.[10]
Ming and Kohl, who would return for 2018, were joined by Rasmus Lindh and Kaylen Frederick.[11] While the team did not win a race, their drivers' consistency rewarded them with their second straight team championship.
