Pacific Coast Association of Magicians

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The Pacific Coast Association of Magicians (PCAM) is an international organization, founded in 1933, for professional, semi-professional, and amateur magicians. It incorporates chapters around the entire Pacific Rim, including Japan, Hawaii, California, and western Canada.[citation needed] It also hosts an annual magic convention for professional magicians from these international chapters, which includes performances and lectures, and has a set of awards well-known within the magician community.[citation needed] Presidents of the Association are sometimes well-known magicians such as Shawn Farquhar, and the awards have been won by magicians such as Kevin James (1980s), Paul W Draper (2002), Dick Zimmerman (1956–1963), Paul Romhany (2003), Murray Sawchuck (1999),[citation needed] and Jonathan Scott, who won a PCAM Award at age 16.[1]

The Association's first President in 1933 was Lloyd E Jones.[citation needed] In 1935, the convention was held at Hollywood's Knickerbocker Hotel, and was attended by Bess Houdini, widow of Harry Houdini.[citation needed]

From September 1936 to August 1937 the magazine Genii, published by William W. Larsen, was the official organ of the association.[2]
