Paharpur Thal (Script error: The function "langx" does not exist.) is a town in Layyah District, Punjab, Pakistan, with a population of approximately 33,000 people.[1] The town is reportedly named after its founder, Pahar Khan.[2] It lies roughly 8 km east of the Indus River.
Languages spoken locally include: - **Saraiki** (majority) - **Punjabi** (≈9.6%)[3] - **Pashto** (≈0.8%)[4] - **Urdu** (widely understood)
Education
The literacy rate is approximately 56.2%.[5] The town has several public and private schools and coaching centres up to the secondary level; students commute to nearby towns for college-level education.
Healthcare
A Rural Health Centre (RHC) provides basic health services, supplemented by private clinics. The RHC was renovated and renamed Maryam Nawaz Health Center under provincial health initiatives.[6]
Transportation
Paharpur Thal has a railway station on the Pakistan Railways network established before independence; however, it remained operational until the early 2000s. Later in 2018, the building of the station was demolished.
The town is situated on the Layyah–Kot Adu road that links it to Layyah and Kot Adu. Reconstructed in 2011, the Layyah–Kot Adu road facilitates socio-economic transportation to the town. However, there are numerous link roads that link nearby villages to Paharpur Thal.
