The Pakistan National Hockey Championship (also known as National Senior Hockey Championship) is a professional field hockey tournament in Pakistan involving departmental, associations and regional based teams from the country. It is the premier professional domestic field hockey competition of the country organized by Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF). The competition has been staged annually with few expectations since the inaugural edition in 1948 just a year after the independence of Pakistan.
History[edit]
The first edition of the tournament was held in 1948 in preparation of the national team for the 1948 Olympics in London participated by district based regional teams. Since then the competition has gone through various changes in format and number of teams competing.
As of the current format 20 teams participate in the competition with a qualification phase known as the National Tray Championship where three teams qualify and are joined by the top ranked teams from the previous competition.
