The Historic Building

The Palais Yeniköy is a historic building dating from the 19th Century, located in the Yeniköy district of Istanbul, which houses today the General Consulate of the Republic of Austria, as well the Austrian Cultural Forum in Turkey.[1] The building was given as a gift by the then Ottoman Sultan to the Austro-Hungarian Emperor Franz-Joseph I on 28 September 1882 [2].|title=Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Austria|last=|first=|date=2018-08-28|website=www.bmeia.gv.at|archive-url=|archive-date=|dead-url=|access-date=}}</ref> . While the building had remained empty since 1860 after it was taken over by the Ottoman Ministry of Finance, the Austrian government refurbished the building from 1894 to 1898 in an imperial style at a cost of 244637 Guilders. [3] Today, it remains as one of the few historic buildings along the picturesque coast of the Bosporus, embellishing the mesmerizing scenery of the city.
