Panther Chan (Chinese: 陳蕾; born 29 October 1990 in Guangzhou, Guangdong, China) is a Hong Kong singer-songwriter active in Cantopop. She came fourth in "Asian Millionstar" (Chinese: 亞洲星光大道), a singing contest held by ATV in 2009. She was in the team of Chinese singer Yang Kun in the Chinese singing contest "Sing My Song" (Chinese: 中國好歌曲) with her original song, Who Made the Valentine's Day (Chinese: 誰搞的情人節). She started her indie brand, Freewiller in 2017, and released two songs that represent her: Run Away, featuring vocals from the band Chochukmo, Jan Curious and Amusement Life, as an indie singer. She officially joined Warner Music Hong Kong in 2019.[1]

On 5 March 2020, Panther released her first song of 2020, Don't Wanna Go Home, her first attempt at Soul Rock. The song was not a commercial success compared to her songs in 2019, but was liked by fans. She released her second song in 2020, Sahā, which topped the 903 chart and was composed while she was on a seven-hour bus trip in Nepal, according to herself. She released her third song, Illusion Of A Desert Island, which was her first love song sent to the radio and topped the ViuTV chart. She released her fourth song of the year, Bystander Effect, at the end of the year. At the end of the year, she won the Bronze Award for Singer-songwriters in the 903 Music Awards for the third consecutive time, and also won the Silver Award for female singers for the first time. She also won the CASH Silver award for Singer-songwriters in the RTHK Top Ten Chinese Gold Songs Award.[2]

Description

In 2009, she came from Guangzhou to Hong Kong alone to participate in the singing contest held by ATV, Asian Millionstar, where she was placed third. She later became active in Hong Kong as an artist while learning to play the guitar.

In 2011, she formed the band PaRT3 with Yutaka Iwamoto (Robin), Hideyuki Sasaki (Tony) and Tetsuro Hanada.

In 2013, PaRT3 participated in a competition held by ONE OK ROCK, and covered a song by ONE OK ROCK, "Wherever you are".

She then took part in a competition held by CCTV, "Sing My Song" (Chinese: 中國好歌曲). She released her original song, Who Made the Valentine's Day (Chinese: 誰搞的情人節), there.

In 2015, because she had participated in ONE OK ROCK's competition earlier, she was invited to join the large artist management firm Amuse, and was the first contracted singer in Amuse Hong Kong. She performed at the starting performance of the music festival Amuse held that year, 《Amuse Fes 2015 BBQ inつまごい~僕らのビートを喰らえコラ!~》, which officially marked her debut as a singer. On 25 September 2015, she recorded the Cantonese and Mandarin versions of a rewritten version of the Japanese band flumpool's song Wishing to the Stars (星に願いを).

In 2016, she released two songs, Fever and Handstand, and terminated her contract with Amuse.

In 2017, she formed an indie brand named FreeWiller with former Mr. members MJ Tam, Tom and model Leanne Ho, and restarted her musical career there, releasing 出走, 你快樂嗎 and Amusement Life.

Her first release in 2018, Amusement Life, entered the top three on the charts of 903, RTHK and 997. Her second release, Run Away (featuring Jan Curious), reached the top of the 903 chart, the first of her songs to do so. At the end of the year, she won the Bronze Award for Singer-songwriters in the 903 Music Awards.

In 2019, the last song in her indie period, When I'm Lost (Chinese: 當我迷失時聽著的歌) came second on all charts. On 31 May, she released her first album, 1029, featuring her songs that had been on the charts and some acoustic versions of them.

On 25 June 2019, Panther announced that she would join Warner Music Hong Kong soon on the Commercial Radio program Circles (Chinese: 1圈圈). On 15 July that year, Warner Music Hong Kong announced her arrival and released her first song with the label, Era of The Beast, which topped the 903 chart. Her second song released with Warner Music Hong Kong, Fluorescent, topped one chart and was placed second on another. Her third song with Warner Music Hong Kong, In Good Hands, topped the charts of 903 and 997, and was second on the RTHK chart.

In 2021, she released her first song, Overpowered, in April, describing playing video games with friends and paying tribute to Mario Kart. In June 2021, she released her first mainstream love song, I Wanna Be With You, which topped the TVB and ViuTV charts while getting second place on 903 and RTHK charts. In September 2021, she released her third song in 2021, Śramaṇa, a sequel to her 2020 song Sahā.
