Pappy Van Poodle is an obscure side character from the 2014 free downloadable Nintendo 3DS title Rusty's Real Deal Baseball. In the game, the player must haggle their way with items that have been given to them in order to lower the price of the mini-games that would otherwise be $4 USD each. Should the player not haggle with Rusty by trading items with him in exchange for the mini-game, Pappy appears to aid in the progression of the story.

Obscurity

This character is notable for its obscurity, given that prior to May 15th, 2019 (the release date for Nick Robinson's video about him), searching Pappy Van Poodle on Google gave no results, therefore being dubbed by the aforementioned content creator as the most obscure Nintendo character. This is due to the relative obscurity of the game itself, and the difficulty of getting to ever see him in the first place, given he only appears if the player avoids the main mechanic of the game, haggling with Rusty.

Description

The story that Rusty's Real Deal Baseball gives describes Pappy Van Poodle as a mentor, businessman and friend to Rusty for nearly 20 human years. He has been such a friend, in fact, to Rusty that he has supposedly become the #1 fan of Rusty’s Sluggers, the baseball team Rusty coaches, and has cheered so hard that at one point his back gave out.
