Paradyn Systems Pty Ltd is an Australian company headquartered in Melbourne, Australia. Paradyn is a provider of planning and scheduling software for supporting business decisions associated with the operation of mining supply chains.

Paradyn was founded in 2012 by Dr Antony Iorio, Sven Schellenberg, and Dr James Whitacre. In June 2014, Paradyn’s first product, BlendOpt, was officially released as a cloud-based software application for the mining industry.

BlendOpt[edit]

BlendOpt is a cloud-based optimization tool that mathematically optimises highly constrained blending, processing, and inventory management decisions that arise at different physical locations within a mining supply chain. Applications for the software are found within mine feasibility studies, long-term mine planning and scheduling, product planning and marketing, port blending, and commodities trading.

Optimization[edit]

BlendOpt’s optimization algorithm can be configured to use profit maximization as its mathematical objective or it can be configured as a constraint satisfaction problem for optimization problems involving the creation of a consistent feed blend for a processing plant (e.g. a CHPP or smelter). The optimization technology used in BlendOpt is a proprietary non-linear optimization algorithm that leverages a suite of stochastic and deterministic solvers. Several constraints can be introduced into the optimization configuration including: • Monthly/quarterly/yearly minimum and maximum tonnage targets • Physical and chemical property ranges for plants feed and contractual product specs • Minimum and maximum stockpile sizes • Scheduled material availability • Forecast cost and product sale forecasts.

Analytics[edit]

BlendOpt claims to be first to market with their introduction of an interactive analytics technology for the mining industry. Interactive analytics enables users to explore software generated business recommendations through a direct interaction with visually displayed data. Each chart within BlendOpt can be directly manipulated to focus on one or more specific questions. Each question a user asks in one chart will automatically propagate to every other chart, thereby allowing a user to understand the implications of specific business decisions from a variety of graphical perspectives. Paradyn claims that extended lines of questioning that would have taken hours to answer in Excel can now be answered in seconds with BlendOpt.
