Parag Sancheti is an orthopedic surgeon, and the Chairman of Sancheti Group of Hospitals. He is practicing at Sancheti Institute for Orthopaedics & Rehabilitation (SIOR), Pune, India.[1] He is a Sports Medicine & Knee Specialist, also specialises in Arthroscopy and Joint Replacement surgery.[2]

Dr. Parag is currently the President – Elect for Asia Pacific Knee Society ( APKS). Dr. Parag has served as President of the Indian Association of Sports Medicine (IASM) in 2017 and has been associated with it since 1996.[3] He has also been President of the Asia Pacific Arthroplasty Society (APAS) for 2 years from 2016 - 2018, a society for surgeons of joint replacement from the Asia-Pacific region.[4][5] He has also served as the President – Maharashtra Orthopedic Association (MOA) from 2018 – 2019.

Acknowledging his body of work and extensive research in the field of orthopedics, he has also been conferred the honorary Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) and has been invited to the Dundee University, UK consistently over the years.[3]

Early life and education[edit]

Dr. Parag is an alumnus of Loyola High School, St. Vincent’s Junior College & Modern College in Pune. He completed his primary and secondary education between 1972 to 1984. He received his M.B.B.S. degree from B.J. Medical College, Pune,[6] where he studied from July 1984 to December 1989. He specialised in Orthopedics at B. J. Medical College and Sassoon General Hospital from 1990 to 1992, and received a Diplomate in National Board Examination in 1993. Following this, he bagged a Clinical Fellowship in Trauma at Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham, A. O. Fellowship, (F. ASIF) from University Hospital in Zurich, Fellowship in Pelvic Acetabular trauma from Parkland Hospital in Dallas, and a Fellowship in Arthroscopy from Katherine Hospital in Stuttgart.

In October 2002, he completed his M.Ch. in Orthopedics from Dundee University. From June to September 2007, he attended a Fellowship in Joint Replacement Surgery from Lenox Hill Hospital in New York, and finally received the honourable Fellowship of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons (FRCS) from Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh.

He is currently serving as a Professor and Dean, Sancheti Institute for Orthopaedics & Rehabilitation, Pune. He also practices at Sancheti Institute for Orthopaedics & Rehabilitation (SIOR), Pune, India. Dr. Parag is a Sports Medicine & Knee Specialist, also specialises in Arthroscopy and Joint Replacement surgery. He is part of the visiting faculty for M.Ch. Course, at University of Dundee, Ninewells Hospital & TORT Centre (Scotland) U.K since 2004.[7]

He is also a visiting Professor at McMaster University, Hamilton, Canada since 2013.[1]

He has also served as a President of the Indian Association of Sports Medicine (IASM) in 2017 and of the Poona Orthopedic Society in 2014.[1][8] He has also been President of the Asia Pacific Arthroplasty Society (APAS) from 2016 – 2018[2] & has also served as the President – Maharashtra Orthopedic Association (MOA) from 2018 – 2019. He is a Founder Member of Indian Society of Hip & Knee Surgeons (ISHKS) since 2004 & Society of Knee Surgeons of India ( SKI) since 2019 and has been the President - MCh Alumni Association (U.K.) in 2010.

He has served as a Scientific Committee Member - International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery & Orthopedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS) from 2017 to 2019.[8][9] He has served as the Executive Member - Asian Federation of Sports Medicine (AFSM) in 2018. Dr. Parag has also been a part of the Basic Sciences & Research Committee - Indian Orthopedic Association (IOA) in 2015.

He has served as Secretary - Indian Arthroscopy Society (IAS) in 2009[1] and as Convener of Medical Committee - Commonwealth Youth Games, Pune, India in 2008.[1][8] He has also been a part of the Editorial Board - Indian Journal of Orthopedics. He served as the secretary Pune Orthopedic Society in 2006.

He has also served as Treasurer and Membership Chair - APKASS (Asia Pacific Society for Knee Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine).He has been an Executive Committee Member of Maharashtra Orthopedic Association (MOA).Dr. Parag was also the Secretary General – BJD (Bone and Joint Decade) and as the Secretary General - Asia Pacific Knee Society.
