Parbantarar Padya (A New Chapter for Verse Assamese: পৰ্বান্তৰৰ পদ্য) is a collection of poems with a manifesto brought out by 'Kabita Adhyayan Got' (Study Circle for Poetry) in 2020 which considers and reconsiders issues related to Assamese poetry.[1]. The book has been compiled and edited by Ananda Bormudoi. The collection was inaugurated by a noted Indian writer, Dr. Nagen Saikia at Dibrugarh on March 14, 2020 [2]. It has been published by Assam Publishing Company [3]. The collection includes a total of one hundred and eleven poems written by eleven Assamese poets who have contributed ten poems each. It also includes Assamese translations of selected poems of twelve foreign poets. The Assamese poets are Harekrishna Deka, Anubhav Tulasi, Pranay Phukan, Rajib Bora, Binod Chandra Borah, Kalyan Bhuyan, Rashmi Rekha Bora, Pranjit Bora, Prakalpa Ranjan Bhagawati, Boidya Bright Buragohain and Kazi Neel. The foreign poets are Walt Whitman, Emily Dickinson, William Butler Yeats, Gabriella Mistral, Langston Hughes, Nâzım Hikmet, Faiz Ahmed Faiz, Nicanor Parra, Yehuda Amichai, Shuntaro Tanikawa, Andrew Voznesensky and Bob Dylan [4].

With the objective of taking poetry to the masses of the people, the manifesto mentions six points for consideration and reconsideration of issues related to poetry [5]. The points in the agenda are [6]:

  1. To take the language of poetry, as far as possible, close to the spoken language.
  2. To bring back description and ballad-like storylines to poetry, avoid elaboration and exercise economy of words.
  3. To address the basic issues of society to widen the scope of poetry.
  4. To apply rhyme and rhythm appropriate to modern subjects.
  5. To use irony and satire as important techniques.
  6. To make poetry suitable for public performance.

The editor has mentioned in the Introduction that the poems included in the collection have reflected the aims and objectives of the manifesto [7]
