Paren Nyawi
Paren Nyawi (born 3 March 1981) is a Malaysian Politician from Democratic Action Party, Sarawak[1]
Currently Board Members at Malaysian Pepper Board (MPB)(Official Site) since July 2018[2].
Early Life and Education
Born in Marudi, Sarawak and raised in Song District, Sarawak. The native of Nanga Sepadi Katibas River – about 4km from Song – is of Iban (Sea Dayak)-Berawan-Kayan parentage. His grandfather was formerly the longhouse chieftain. Paren Nyawi underwent primary education at Sekolah Kebangsaan (previously known as Sekolah Bantuan) Cardinal Vaughan Song District, Sarawak from 1988 to 1993 before going to Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan,Song Sarawak from 1994 to 1998 and later, entered Labuan Matriculation College from June 1999 to August 2000 and pursuing his Bachelor Degree in Accountancy at Universiti Teknologi MARA(UiTM) Shah Alam from Dec 2000 to Dec 2004. Paren graduated from Universiti Teknologi MARA(UiTM)(Official Site)[3] on March 2005 and received his Bachelor of Accountancy(Hons).
Early Career
He had worked at a Public Accounting Firm from March 2005 to April 2009 in Kuala Lumpur and as an Internal Auditor at a Public Listed Company from May 2009 to May 2015 in Damansara, Selangor.
He is a member of Malaysian Institute of Accountants[4] as a Chartered Accountant since November 2008.
Before officially joining politics, he was a Blogger[5] at Paren Nyawi's blog, former Vice President for Persatuan Warisan Sarawak KL & Selangor(non-governmental organisation(NGO) for East Malaysian people living in Peninsular Malaysia from 2011 to 2015 and former organiser for Borneo Hornbill Festival(Official Site) from 2012 to 2014[6][7] and former Director for International Borneo Fest 2018.
Political Career
Entry into politics
Paren was a Special Assistant[8]to Member of Parliament Sibu (federal constituency) YB Oscar Ling from 2015[9] to 2018. He made a political debut during a DAP Talk[10] at Rejang Park, Sibu on 21 June 2015[11].
He is a branch chairman for Democratic Action Party(DAP) Song District, Sarawak[12] at N.62 Katibas and operating his service centre since October 2015[13][14]
He was a former Democratic Action Party(DAP) candidate[15][16] for 2016 Sarawak State Election[17] (SE 2016)[18] at N.62 Katibas[19] at Song District, Sarawak on 5 May 2016 and 2018 Malaysian General Election(GE 14)[20] at P.215 Kapit (federal constituency)[21] Kapit, Sarawak on 9 May 2018.[22][23][24][25][26] [27][28][29]
Concurrently serving as Special Officer[30] and Private Secretary[31] to Malaysian Minister YB Teresa Kok at Ministry of Primary Industries (Malaysia) also MSPO(Malaysian Sustainable Palm oil)[32] Outreach Officer for Sarawak Region at Malaysian Palm Oil Certification Council(MPOCC)(Official Site) since July 2018 after Pakatan Harapan won the Malaysia's general election in 2018.
