Paromita Mitra (born August 2, 1991) is a Bangladeshi-born American model, former Miss Mississippi USA 2013 and Miss Mississippi Teen USA 2009. Mitra was crowned Miss Mississippi USA on November 3, 2012, becoming the first Bangladeshi woman to win that title.[1][2] She went on to represent Mississippi in the Miss USA Pageant.
Early life and education
Mitra was born in Bangladesh, the younger of two children, to Amal and Ratna Mitra. She was raised in Hattiesburg, where she attended and graduated from Oak Grove High School, where she was elected homecoming queen and served as senior class president. After high school, Mitra attended Mississippi State University, graduating in 2014 with a degree in Aerospace Engineering and a minor in Mathematics.
Mitra is an advocate for higher education and increased STEM education and works to encourage science, technology, engineering, and math literacy in youth.
