Paruchuri Gopala Krishna (Telugu: పరుచూరి గోపాలకృష్ణ) is an Indian film screenwriter, dialogue writer, poet, playwright, novelist, actor, director, and orator prominent in Telugu cinema. Paruchuri Brothers (Paruchuri Venkateswara Rao and Paruchuri Gopala Krishna) are a writing duo in the film industry who worked on more than 350 films (including Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada) since 1978.
Early Life and Education
Paruchuri Gopala Krishna (born June 1946 in Meduru, Gannavaram Taluq, Krishna District) was the youngest child of Paruchuri Raghaviah and Hymavathamma. He has one elder sister and two elder brothers, Paruchuri Venkateswara Rao and Paruchuri Kutumba Rao. Gopala Krishna earned a Bachelor of Science degree (B.Sc.) from Government City Science College and a Master of Arts degree (M.A.) in Telugu from Arts College, both affiliated with Osmania University. He later received a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) degree from Osmania University for his research on 'Telugu Cinema Sahityam - Katha-Kathanam-Siplam' in 2003. Gopala Krishna submitted his thesis for a Doctor of Literature (D.Litt) degree from Berhampur University, Orissa, on the topic 'Telugu Cinema Story – Social Outlook' in 2015; the viva is pending. He also studied Hindi (Rashtra Bhasha). He is fluent in Hindi, English, and familiar with Tamil.
Personal Life
Gopala Krishna is married to his first cousin, Vijaya Lakshmi. The couple has three children: Paruchuri Hima Bindu, Gottimukkala Naga Sushma (married to TV and film artist Gottimukkala Jaya Prakash, screen name Varun), and Kodali Hari Priya (married to entrepreneur Kodali Kalyan Prasad). He has two grandsons (Pinnamaneni Bhuvana Sai Krishna and Gottimukkala Karthik) and three granddaughters (Gottimukkala Vujjaini, Kodali Tanvi, and Kodali Medha).
Career
Lecturer and Head of the Department (1975 to 1981)
Gopala Krishna worked as a Telugu lecturer at Lal Bahdoor Shastri Oriental College, Chinanindra Kolanu, West Godavari from 07-08-1971 to 01-09-1975. He later served as Head of the Department of Telugu at Adusumilli Gopala Krishna & Sugar Cane Growers College, Vuyyuru, Krishna District from 02-09-1975 to 21-10-1981.
Writing and Acting (1971 – Present)
He began by writing short stories, playlets, and detective novels, published in weekly magazines. He also performed in over one hundred playlets in Indian theatre. In 1978, his brother Paruchuri Venkateswara Rao encouraged him to join the film industry. They began writing together as Paruchuri Venkateswara Rao and Paruchuri Gopala Krishna. In 1982, NTR proposed the screen name "Paruchuri Brothers," establishing them as successful writers. Gopala Krishna's first film role was in Ee Piilaku Peelavuthunda (1983), a film whose story and dialogues he co-wrote with his brother. He continued to act in over 47 films, as well as continue writing for more than 350 films including: E Charithra Ye Siratho, Naa Desam, Khadi, Eenadu, Mundadugu, Bobbili Brahmanna, Prajaswamyam, Karthavyam, Varsham, Sarpayagam, Samarsimha Reddy, Okkadu, Indra, Tagore, Manasantha Nuvve, Nee Sneham, Nuvvosthunte Nenoddantaana, Shankardada Zindabad, Drushyam, Khaidi No 150, Rudrama Devi, and Syeeraa Narasimhaa Reddy.
Direction (1984 – present)
In 1984, the brothers began directing films, starting with Kai Raja Kai (Srinadh Movies). They later directed a total of 9 films, including: Bhale Thammudu, Sreekatnaleelalu, Repati Swarajyam, Praja Swamyamyam, Maa Telugu Talli, Maro Quit India, Sarpayagam, and Singanna.
Other Work
Television
Gopala Krishna contributed to television as a host, co-host, actor, writer, and director. He hosted the Gemini TV reality show Chilaka Gorinka in 1996. He hosted 200 episodes of the Gemini TV talk show Praja Vedika from 2008 to 2013. He also co-hosted Maa TV's reality show Andhamina Jeevitham in 2015 and Samsaram oka Chadarangam in 2016. In 2001, he wrote the script for the ETV serial Mattimanishi for Akkineni Nageswara Rao. In 2013, he directed the ETV mythological telefilm Sati Savitri. He acted in the 2004 ZEE Telugu telefilm Thulabharam, and in 2013, portrayed Nelakanta Sastri in the ABN historical serial Yogi Vemana.
Mentor
Gopala Krishna, passionate about teaching, continues to be a visiting professor, teaching screenplay writing at Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University, AP Cine Writers Association, and Telugu Film Directors Association since 2008.
Social Media
In 2017, he began sharing film script-writing knowledge via his YouTube channel, also posting on Facebook and Twitter, offering interactive lessons and Q&A sessions.
Services
From 1997 to 2005, Gopala Krishna served as an Executive Council Member for Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University. In 2002, he became an Executive Council Member for the Movie Artist Association. From 2002 to 2004, he was a director for the Film Development Corporation, Andhra Pradesh. From February 2003 to May 2004, he served as Chairman of the Official Language Commission, Andhra Pradesh. From 2008 to 2010, he chaired the Coordination Committee of the A.P. Film Directors Association. He served as Coordination Committee Chairman and President for the A.P. Film Industry Employees Federation from 2008 to 2012. He has been Convener and Trustee of the Paruchuri Raghubabu Memorial Trust since 1991, and Chairman of the Smt. Paruchuri Hymavathy Raghaviah Memorial Trust since 2012. He remains a Life Member of the Tyagaraya Ganasabha since 1991 and President of the Andhra Pradesh Cine Writers Association since 2007.

Literary Essays
In 1997, Gopala Krishna published essays in Andhra Jyothi daily (Stree Patralu and Samagica Prabhavam on September 1st and 22nd). From November 1995 to January 1997, he published essays in the Rachana monthly magazine (Chirtammlo Citralu).
