Education[edit]
Dr. Saeedi did her Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering at Iran University of Science and Technology, Tehran, Iran.[2] She continued her education in Electrical Engineering and received a Master’s degree and a PhD at the University of British Columbia in 2004.[2]
Career[edit]
Dr. Saeedi worked at Canada's Michael Smith Genome Sciences Centre from 2000 to 2006 where she was involved in automated image analysis to identify DNA fragments for the genome mapping project.[3] She was employed at MacDonald Dettwiler and Associates Ltd (MDA) from 2004 to 2007.[4] At MDA she worked on projects such as European Space Agency's (ESA) ADM-Aeolus project, German satellite mission RapidEye, Automatic 3D Building Detection using aerial/satellite images.[3] Dr. Saeedi joined Simon Fraser University in the School of Engineering in January 2007 where she is now the Associate Dean for Faculty of Applied Science and an Associate Professor.[1]
Awards and publications[edit]
Dr. Saeedi received the University Faculty Award by Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) in 2007.[5][6] Over her years as a researcher she has published many journal articles. Some of her noted and most-cited works include "Vision-based 3-D trajectory tracking for unknown environments",[7] "Three-dimensional polygonal building model estimation from single satellite images",[8] "Robust weighted graph transformation matching for rigid and nonrigid image registration"[9] and "Automatic rooftop extraction in nadir aerial imagery of suburban regions using corners and variational level set evolution."[10]
