Pascal Morabito is a French jeweler, born on the 3rd of May 1945 in Nice, France, from an Italian family of goldsmiths since 1871. He also works as a perfumer, stylist, architect, philosopher, painter and sculptor.[1],[2]

Biography

His architectural studies completed, he opened on May 3, 1968, in the family workshops, the first artist's jewelry department called the "centre for the study and creation of contemporary jewelry and micro-architecture"[3],[2],[4]. Pascal Morabito is the father of the designer Ora-ïto, the photographer Teo Morabito[5],[6] and Tao Morabito.

He creates unique pieces of fine jewelry for private and international clients.[1] and in particular the gold and silverware compressions by César that will become "the César of cinema"[2]

In 1970, he was one of the first jewelers to publish artist's jewelry and created his first jewel "the free diamond" or "the cube"[2], a diamond included in a synthetic crystal cube surrounded by gold edges, an iconic jewel, cited in the Grand Larousse and present at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.,[7]

In 1976, creation of the "square watch" with four rivets.[2],[8] (30 years later, his creation, the “square Watch” was copied by Dolce & Gabbana in 2006.[9],[10] Pascal Morabito obtains literary and artistic property on this model, wins the lawsuit and has D&G condemned to heavy damages).[11],[12],[13],[14]

At the time, he also produced the thinnest quartz watch in the world.

In 1980, he created "OR NOIR" the first jewel perfume,[7],[15],[2],[16] followed by "OR BLACK" in 1981 rated 5 stars in the "perfume guide" of Luca Turin, the bible of perfumes. He produced the first Decaux embossed advertising campaign. The OR NOIR perfume is referenced in numerous books on the history of perfumes and is part of the permanent collection of the International Perfume Museum in Grasse. Today it is among the 10 perfumes with more than 20 years of life and marketing.[7] [2] [15]

His private Island[17] on the south coast of France becomes his Artistic residence[6] During a garden party in the middle of the sea on May 3, 1990, he inaugurated a collection of fractal sculptures in the company of Violinist Ivry Gitlis and singer Grace Jones[18]

In 1990, he created in Normandy the sculpture "Pyramide Fractale 1", edge of 32 meters, 1000 m2 in Corten steel[19],[20]

In 1995, the authorities demanded 16 million from him, including a deposit of 3 million francs, since settled, and he wrote the book Le Papillon rouge.[21],[22]

2013, exhibition "Multitude et Unité" at the M Pavilion of Marseille, 2013 European capital of culture. During the inauguration, Pascal Morabito is decorated "Honorary Citizen of the City of Marseille" by the Mayor of Marseille Jean Claude Gaudin[23],[24]

Morabito (the brand)

Pascal Morabito, 1st of the name, born in Napoli, opened a shop in Nice in 1902. Specializing in coral, tortoiseshell and pearls, he created toiletries and luggage for the greats of this world and Tsars.

Pascal Morabito, 2nd of the name, adds silverware, porcelain and crystal to existing creations.[24]

Pascal Morabito, 3rd of the name, opens a boutique in Paris Place Vendôme and creates the perfume Or Noir, as well as a line of jewelry, watches, luggage from its integrated workshops and a complete range of luxury products that it distributes in his stores in Deauville, Megève, Geneva, New York, Los Angeles and Tokyo.[8],[2]

Artistic Villa

The architect Pascal Morabito created in Bali, Indonesia "Morabito Art Villa", an artistic space open to the public[25],[26],[27],[28],[29], then a second place "Morabito Art Cliff" in the south of Bali.[30]
