Pasquale Quaranta (Salerno, 4 January 1983) is an Italian journalist, civil rights activist and academic. He is known for being the first officially appointed "Diversity Editor" in Italy, initially at La Stampa and later across the GEDI Group, promoting inclusive and culturally aware journalism.
Biography
Quaranta earned a degree in Publishing, Multimedia Communication, and Journalism at the University of Rome "Tor Vergata". He then completed a RAI Master’s in Multimedia Content Design at the University of Florence, and finally a PhD in Comparative Studies at the University of Rome "Tor Vergata" with a dissertation on the representation of LGBT+ individuals in Italian dictionaries.
In 2003, he founded the provincial committee of Arcigay Salerno and served as its president. He was spokesperson for the first Salerno Pride in 2005 and a national board member of Arcigay from 2007 to 2011.
Journalistic career
He has worked for GEDI Group since 2013, contributing to both La Repubblica and La Stampa. On 12 May 2023, he was officially appointed as the first Diversity Editor at an Italian newspaper. His role was extended throughout GEDI Group starting 1 February 2024.
He is also a lecturer at the Master’s in Journalism at the University of Turin, teaching courses in Diversity Journalism and overseeing professional training accredited by the Italian Journalists’ Association

Cultural activities
He regularly conducts lectures and seminars on media representation of minorities, and is a recurring speaker at the International Journalism Festival in Perugia.
