Pat Keane

Pat Keane (Padraic Keane; born 1971) is an American mastering engineer, multi-instrumentalist, and music instructor. He has mastered recordings on all the major recording formats on projects by artists including Builder of the House (SonaBLAST! Records), The Mallett Brothers Band, Kris Rodgers (Rum Bar Records)[1], Jonathan Edwards, Falls of Rauros (Bindrune Recordings/Nordvis)[2], and East of the Wall (Translation Loss Records)[3].
Biography
Pat earned his bachelor's degree in Performing Arts and Contemporary Music from the University of Maine at Augusta.[4] While attending UMA he studied with Bob Thompson, Berklee Adjunct Faculty guitar instructor; Tony Gaboury, Berklee Adjunct guitar instructor, Composer and Arranger Tom Hoffman, and David Demsey, Professor of Music and coordinator of the Jazz department at William Paterson in New Jersey. At UMaine Augusta, Pat also focused on understanding music theory, multi-instrument arrangements, composition, and the art of recording production.
After earning his degree Pat began his career as a performing artist in the Southern Maine area. Pat contributed to many notable bands including: The Tom Snow Band, The Phil McGowan Band, The Bob Charrest Band, Sound Decision, A Cool Shade of Blue, and The Rhythm Fish, among others. Pat began touring with Rick Charette's Bubble Gum Band starting in 1997. Pat was a band leader of his own group The 3D Horns from 1994 to 2000.[5] Pat has also been a long-time private guitar instructor for Buckdancer’s Choice Music Co. in Portland, Maine,[6] and plays classical guitar at events.[7]
He started mixing front of house sound for the Big Easy Blues Club, from 1994 until 2000, and began producing albums and EP’s around 1997.[8] From there he continued to work on various album projects including his first mastering project, “Hard Fought Day," by Tricky Britches[9]. Pat started his mastering business in 2006 out of his house, then moved to Portland, Maine in 2009 and built out his mastering room next door to Acadia Recording Company.[10]
Recognition
Pat's mastering room was designated one of 19 of the world's finest in studio design by Mix Magazine, and provides a completely neutral sonic environment for his mastering projects. Designed by Lou Clark of Sonic-Space,[11] the studio is isolated using Greenglue between multiple layers of sheetrock over Kinetics isolation clips. The rear wall features a 21-inch-deep full-wall broadband absorber with four XIX Acoustic Ramps.[12] The studio ceiling contains 24 inches of broadband absorption with wood grate scattering panels mounted behind the mix position. Keane’s key equipment includes Barefoot MM27 monitors, Lynx AES16 Interface, Pro Tools HD12, and various analog and digital tape machines.[13]
