Pat Livingston
Patrick Murray "Pat" Livingston (October 16, 1920-August 16, 2003) was an American sportswriter who is best known for his long association with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Early life
Livingston graduated from St. Francis College in Loretto in 1941 and earned a Juris Doctorate from Duquesne University.
Career
Livingston began his career as the Steelers' publicity director in 1942 and served in that role for six years. In 1949 he joined the Pittsburgh Press as a sportswriter and editor where he remained until 1983.[1]
Livingston covered the Steelers for decades; in 1985, he wrote The Pittsburgh Steelers: A Pictorial History, an account of the over 50-year history of the franchise. He covered the team through its dynasty in the 1970s which included victories in four Super Bowls (IX, X, XIII, and XIV).[citation needed] He also served as an elector of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.[citation needed]
Awards and honors
Livingston was a Keystone Award recipient from Pennsylvania Newspaper Publications Association in 1977. In 1979, he was awarded the Dick McCann Award from the Pro Football Writers Association of America[2] and the Pittsburgh Man of Year in Communications and was named Pittsburgh Sportsman of Year. He was inducted into the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in 1990.[citation needed]
