Paten Hughes is an American actress, model, and producer. She is the star and co-creator of Heirloom[1], the first romantic comedy web series to become a mainstream hit.

A classically trained stage performer, Hughes was an original member of The Old Vic New Voices Network.

She has been featured in fashion photography shoots for Vogue Taiwan[2] and other publications.

Early Life[edit]

Hughes is a Virginia native who studied Theatre and French at Washington and Lee University. Later, she trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London.

Stage[edit]

As an original member of The Old Vic New Voices Network, Hughes performed on stages across Europe and the United States. She appeared in productions such as Anton Chekov’s Three Sisters and Halo/Titanic.

She would later tour the United States to perform the one-woman show The Thin Line[3], written and directed by Cathy Plourde.

Film[edit]

Hughes played swimmer Blake Martin in the 2015 film Coach of the Year[4], based on the true story of a high school swim team that competed for a state championship despite lacking a pool in which to practice.

Hughes went on to star alongside Shiloh Fernandez and Ella Rae Peck in the 2016 romantic drama Long Nights Short Mornings[5] (2016), which was written and directed by Chadd Harbold.

She appeared in the critically acclaimed film Beauty Mark[6] (2017), directed by Harris Doran, which won the Audience Award at the Austin Film Festival, the Special Jury Prize at the Los Angeles Film Festival, and the Film Jury Award at the SENE Film, Music, and Art Festival, among other awards.

Hughes is best known as the star and co-creator of Heirloom[7] (2016–), a popular web series that garnered over 4.2 million views on Vimeo. Directed by Michael Melamedoff (The Problem with Apu) and written by Bekah Brunstetter (This Is Us), the series was praised by IndieWire for “[looking] and [sounding] as good as anything on television.”[8] Distribution rights to the show were later acquired by Screen Media.

Personal Life[edit]

Hughes is married to Kevin Kinsella[9], founder of the venture capital firm Avalon Ventures and an early investor in Jersey Boys, the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical about Frank Valli & The Four Seasons.

Charitable Work[edit]

Hughes works with cancer patients as part of the Visible Ink[10] program of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, which helps patients express themselves creatively as part of the healing process.
