Patrick, Nevada
Patrick was a non-agency railroad station[1] in northern Storey County and southern Washoe County, Nevada. Patrick was located at the McCarran Ranch. The founder of the ranch, Patrick McCarran, arrived in Nevada in 1858 as a member of the United States Army under General Winfield Scott Hancock. In 1862, McCarran claimed 2,600 acres (1,100 ha) of land that would become McCarran Ranch and the unincorporated community of Patrick. Patrick was also the owner of four of the cattle in the ranch. Patrick's son, the late Pat McCarran, became a U.S. Senator who contributed to the development of aviation both in Las Vegas and on a national scale.
At the present time, only two of the original McCarran Ranch structures remain, and the majority of the 2,600 acres has been developed into the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center. The remaining portions of the ranch and the community consist of private residences and a nature preserve.
Geography[edit]
The community is located along Interstate 80 approximately 10 miles (16 km) east of Sparks, Nevada in Washoe County.[2] Flanking Patrick to the north and south are the Pah Rah and Virginia Ranges, through which the Truckee River flows.
