Early life and education
Patrick Allard is a US-based biologist and toxicologist. He received dual bachelor's degrees in Biology and Biochemistry from the University of Toulouse and a master's degree in Bology of Aging from the Université Paris Cité. He completed a Ph.D. in biology at McGill University and subsequently conducted his postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Genetics at Harvard Medical School.[1].
Career and research
Allard is currently a Full Professor in the Institute for Society and Genetics at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) [2]. His research primarily focuses on Gene-Environment Interaction, Reproductive Biology, and Environmental Epigenetics.
His laboratory studies how environmental exposures affects biological function across the life course and also across generations, using multiple 'omics approaches, stem cells, and model organisms including Caenorhabditis elegans [3]. His work has notably contributed to understanding the mechanisms directing environmentally-induced transgenerational inheritance and provided the first evidence of reversal of [4][5][6].
Allard has also contributed to the development of New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) for chemical safety assessment and reproductive toxicology [7][8][9]. His laboratory developed experimental screening approaches for identifying environmental chemicals associated with reproductive toxicity and conducted early comparative studies of Bisphenol A alternatives, including Bisphenol S, reporting that some replacements displayed biological effects similar to those of BPA [10].
His research has been published in journals including Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Cell Reports, PLOS Genetics, and Environmental Health Perspectives [11].

Awards and honors
Allard's research has been recognized by multiple awards. He received a Pathway to Independence Award (K99/R00) from the National Institutes of Health for research focused on environmental influences on chromosome segregation and reproduction [14].
He also received an Innovations in Regulatory Science Award from the Burroughs Wellcome Fund for work related to the development of new predictive reproductive toxicity assessment platforms [15].
In 2017, Allard was appointed by the governor of California to the Developmental and Reproductive Toxicant Identification Committee, which advises the state on reproductive and developmental toxicants in environmental health regulation [16].
In 2025, Allard received a Fulbright Program U.S. Scholar award supporting scientific collaboration between the United States and France [17].
He serves as an associate editor of Environmental Health Perspectives [18] and as Vice-President elect of the Southern California Chapter of the Society of Toxicology [19]
