Patrick Devine

Padraig (Patrick) Devine SMA, is an Irish missionary priest who is the chairman and founder of the Shalom Centre for Conflict Resolution and Reconciliation in Kenya.[1] From Frenchpark, County Roscommon, Patrick Devine was educated at St. Patrick's College, Maynooth, gaining a BA degree from the NUI, and a Diploma in Philosophy and Bachelor of Divinity from the Pontifical University. In 1988, he was ordained a member of the Society of African Missions and was assigned to Tanazania. He worked on projects for the SMA providing support for refugees in Tanzania, from the Rwandan civil war.

He was awarded an MA by the Catholic University of Eastern Africa, after studying at the Jesuit Hekima University College. In 2016, he was awarded a doctorate by the University of Nairobi.[2]

In 2009, Fr Devine set up the Shalom Centre, he was honoured for his efforts with the Caring Institute's International Caring Award in 2013.[3] [4] Fr. Devine was also honoured by his native Roscommon County Council in 2014.[5]

Dr. Devine delivered the 4th Annual Dermot Earley Lecture at the Kennedy Institute, Maynooth University,[6][7] Lieutenant-General Dermot Earley a fellow Roscommon man, and peace studies graduate, was a supporter of Dr. Devine.[8]

Dr Devine has taught at Tangaza College in Nairobi, and in 2020 he was appointed to the first governing Council of Tangaza University College in Nairobi, following it being granted University status.[9] [10]
