Patrizio Travagli
Patrizio Travagli is an Italian artist based in Florence, Italy.
Life
Travagli graduated from the Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze (Academy of Fine Arts of Florence) in 1993 with a degree in painting.
According to his statement, his art follows his research on the study of physical phenomena; the branch of study interesting him the most being light, which he considers the source of all perception. He uses mathematics and architecture, blending art and science with his own discoveries about light. His art aims to lead viewers to rethink their perception of space regardless of the wide variety of techniques he uses: painting, sculpture, video, photography and installation. He frequently collaborates with scientists and professionals of other fields, such as architects and designers, in order to achieve a gesamkunstwerk (Artist Statement - http://www.travagli.it/about.html).
Early Works
In 1999 he received the 2nd prize at the Torino Incontra l’Arte award and the Jury Prize at the Targetti Light Art Award.
His first exhibition at a museum took place in Warsaw in 2002, at the Centre for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle, where he first exhibited Aleph – Homage to Lene [Vestergaard] Hau, a work created in 1999 for the TargettiArtLight Award and from which stems all of Travagli's successive research into light.
