Patrycja Dołowy

Patrycja Dołowy is a Polish writer, photographer, multimedia artist, playwright, essayist, and promoter of science and art. She was born in 1978 in Boston, Massachusetts, and currently lives in Warsaw, Poland. Dołowy completed her higher education at the University of Warsaw and the Academy of Artistic Photography at the Higher School of Photography in Wrocław. She holds a PhD in microbiology.[1]

Career[edit]

Dołowy's engagement in social and socio-cultural activities is well-recognized. Since 2022, she has served as the director of JCC Warsaw. Her involvement extends to being a board member of the BioEdukacji Foundation and participating in the Council for the Popularization of Science of the Polish Academy of Sciences. She also played pivotal roles in organizations such as the Mama Foundation and the Polish Science Communicators Association (Naukowi.pl).[2][3]

Her artistic journey began with subjective staged photography, using classic techniques, and evolved into creating series and multimedia works. Dołowy has been recognized for her contributions to the field with numerous awards and scholarships, including those from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, Asylum Arts, and the Tarbut Fellowship. She was also honored with the "Warsaw Ghetto Uprising" Medal for her efforts in combating xenophobia, nationalism, and anti-Semitism.[4]

In the realm of literature and theater, Dołowy is the author of acclaimed books such as "Treasures: Seekers and Guardians of Jewish Memory" and "I'll be back when you're asleep: Conversations with Children of Holocaust." Her plays, including "Wanda," "Hideout," and "Dziady: Brest Fortress," all directed by Paweł Passini, have garnered attention and praise for their insightful exploration of complex themes. She has also co-authored several notable publications and been involved in various performances and exhibitions, both in Poland and internationally.[5]
