Paul Aversano

Paul Aversano (born June 1st, 1971) is an American businessman, business consultant, and expert on financial markets and private equity. He has contributed to numerous financial and business news networks, frequently speaking on themes such as the global and U.S. economy, financial markets,  private equity, and other macroeconomic topics such as U.S. employment. Aversano is know for coining the phrase “vortex of volatility” to refer to fluctuating conditions in global markets and the U.S. business environment[1].

In the spring of 2016, Aversano first appeared on Fox Business Network’s After the Bell[2], and has since been featured more than a dozen times as a guest on the show, which launched his broadcast contribution career. Besides appearing as a regular guest host on Fox, he has also been featured in numerous publications and news outlets, such as the Wall Street Journal[3], Bloomberg Radio[4], Fox Business[5], TheStreet[6], TD Ameritrade[7], and Equities.com[8]. Aversano is a public speaker at notable events around the world including the Shanghai PE/VC Symposium and the World Economic Forum. Aversano currently serves as the Global Practice Leader of Alvarez & Marsal’s Global Transaction Advisory Group (TAG).

Early Life and Education[edit]

Aversano grew up on Long Island, New York. He attended Binghamton University School of Management where he received a B.S. in Accounting[9] in 1993.

Career[edit]

Aversano began his career as an intern at Arthur Andersen in New York City[10] while attending Binghamton. Upon graduation, he went on to work at Arthur Andersen under the Audit & Business Advisory and Transaction Advisory Services practices until the firm’s collapse in 2002[11]. Following these events, Aversano moved to Ernst & Young, where he became a Partner and served as the Director of New York Middle Market Private Equity until 2006[12].

After leaving Ernst & Young, Aversano began working at Alvarez & Marsal in 2006, where he built the firm’s Transaction Advisory (TAG) practice, overseeing the continuous expansion of its services across North America[13], Latin America[14], Asia[15], India[16], and Europe[17]. The global practice has been recognized for numerous awards, most recently the Financial Due Diligence Provider of the Year award by Unquote British Private Equity Awards.

As he built his private equity career, Aversano began gaining recognition for his work in the business sector. In 2011, he was named as a finalist of The M&A Advisor’s 40 Under 40 Award recognizing his work as a leading M&A and finance professional. This was followed by The M&A Advisor’s Service Professional of the Year in 2015.

Aversano’s business success led to invitations to share his industry point of view in the financial media. He first appeared on Fox Business Network’s After the Bell in the spring of 2016[18], after which he began booking more regular media appearances and interviews. Aversano’s contributions have led to features in notable networks and publications such as Bloomberg Radio[19] and the Wall Street Journal[20].

Aversano is known for his larger than life personality on and off air, as well as for coining the phrases “vortex of volatility" and “Make Due Diligence Great Again". On his social media channels, he frequently makes pop culture references in his posts and incorporates financial humor on his feed. Additionally, Aversano has been photographed with many high-profile personalities in business, media, and finance. On air, he is known for bringing color to financial markets in layman’s terms, breaking down finance vernacular and complex concepts, as well as presenting financial topics in a less formal tone online, using tactics like creative graphics and cartoons to broaden his appeal.

Philanthropy[edit]

Aversano serves as a board member for Youth INC, a nonprofit organization that manages the growth and reach of nonprofit organizations[25]. He also supports other nonprofits such as PowerPlayNYC, the Summit School, and Hour Children. Aversano is also a continual supporter of his alma mater, Binghamton University, having served on their Alumni Board of Directors[26]. The university’s Aversano and Crecco Families Lecture Hall 7 is named in honor of his family’s donation to support multimedia instruction and services for students with disabilities[27].

  • In 2011, he was selected as a finalist for The M&A Advisor 40 Under 40 Awards.
  • In 2014, A&M was awarded Integrated Due Diligence Team of the Year at the Acquisition International M&A Awards.[28]

Personal Life[edit]

Aversano resides in Manhasset, New York with his wife Sylvia and their three daughters. In his freetime, he enjoys spending time with his family, travelling, and playing golf.

Aversano is personal friends with former White House Director of Communications Anthony Scaramucci[31] and Fox Business Network and Fox News Channel host Melissa Francis[32].
