Paul David Lawrence (born February 1962) is a British businessman and philanthropist.
Early life and family[edit]
Lawrence was born on 9 February 1962 in Alwoodley, Leeds, West Yorkshire. He attended Leeds Grammar School.
In 1987 he married Catherine Anne Shapiro (born February 1965). Together, they have two sons and two daughters.
He was selected as the High Sheriff of West Yorkshire for 2019-20.[2]
Business career[edit]
Lawrence co-founded Lawrence Scoffield and Co. Ltd aged 19. In March 2008 the business was sold to management. In November 2012, Lawrence started Lawrence Fraser Brokers,[3] an insurance broking firm specialising in professional indemnity, group health, property owners, motor fleet, high net worth homes, business combined & liabilities, cyber, and, directors & officers insurance.[4]
Lawrence served as a non-executive director of Domus Healthcare Group between 2008 and 2012.[5]
Philanthropy[edit]
Lawrence became a Barker of Variety in July 1995, and a Trustee in 2000.[6] He served as Chairman of Variety Club's Yorkshire Committee, between 1998 and 1999. In 1998 he started the Yorkshire Property Awards. Since its inception this event has raised more than £2m.[6] In 2010, Lawrence was appointed as Variety's Chief Barker, becoming Variety's first Chief Barker to reside outside of London.[7]
Lawrence was appointed as a Governor of Leeds Girls' High School in 2000, and subsequently, the Grammar School at Leeds upon the merger between Leeds Girls’ High Scoon and Leeds Grammar School. He held the position for ten years. Lawrence also served as a govenor of the Leeds College of Music for five years.
