Career[edit]

In 1984 a journalist writing for The Watford Observer dubbed him Paul ‘Eccentric’ because he refused to give his surname during an interview. It stuck. His radio plays and poetry have been recorded by: Geoffrey Palmer, Paul McGann, Brian Cant, Edward Tudor Pole, Suzanna Harker, Mark Steel, Graham Fellows, Ian McCaskill, Jenny Funnel, Richard O’Brien and Den Hegarty.

Dividing time between writing and performing, Paul has published seven books on various subjects to date. His poetry and short stories have also been included in dozens of anthology books, magazines and newspapers. as well as Sunday Times bestselling author, Carole Matthews’ books, ‘Happiness for Beginners’ and ‘Christmas for Beginners’. Paul is currently published by Caffeine Nights Books[1], home of Shaun Hutson, Garry Bushell, Joe Pasquale, and Colin Edmonds and his first children’s book will be published by FBS Publishing, home of Colin Baker, Terry Molly and Mark Little later in 2021.

Paul is the front man for The Odd Eccentric, 1984 to present, The Senti-Mentals (featuring Den Hegarty from The Darts) 1996 to present He was also with The Rocketeers, featuring Bobby Valentino, from 1999 to 2000.

In 2009; along with Ian Newman and Donna Ray, Paul co-founded Rhythmical Ravings and Rants (RRRANTS), a poetry, song writing, comedy and storytelling collective. This led to The Bardaid Initiative [2] (donating several thousand poetry books to schools in the home counties) and the creating of three Telephone box libraries[3] and two school libraries.

His beat poetry act, ‘The Antipoet’, with Ian Newman, now dominates much of his time and has allowed him to support and warm up for many of his heroes, including, Adam Ant, Joolz Denby, Robin Ince, Mark Watson, Helen and The Horns, Viv Albertine, Mark Thomas, Ed Tudor Pole, Trevor Lock, TV Smith, Lester Square and Martin Stephenson. This also includes performing at Glastonbury’s Poetry and Words Stage, where the act has shared the bill over the years with, John Hegley, Tae Tempest, Phil Jupitus, Michael Rosen, Kate Fox, Elvis McGonagal, Matt Harvey, Murray Lachlan Young, Holly McNish, Lemn Sissay, Tony Walsh, Dizraeli, Luke Wright and Atilla the Stockboker.[4]
