Paul Joseph Dougherty (born 1963) is an American ophthalmologist specializing in cataract and refractive surgery. He is a clinical instructor at the UCLA Jules Stein Eye Institute and the founder of a private ophthalmology practice based in Southern California.[1]
Education
Dougherty earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Pennsylvania and received his Doctor of Medicine from the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the UCLA Jules Stein Eye Institute.[1]
Career
In 1996, Dougherty founded a private ophthalmology practice in Southern California focusing on refractive and cataract surgery.[2] His work includes the use of laser-assisted vision correction procedures and implantable intraocular lenses.[3]
He has participated in clinical research involving refractive surgery technologies regulated by the Food and Drug Administration.[2]
Philanthropy
In 2007, Dougherty established the Andrew Dougherty Vision Foundation, a nonprofit organization providing vision-correction surgery in underserved communities.[4]
Following the 2010 Haiti earthquake, his surgical mission work in Haiti was profiled by ABC News.[4]
