Paul Menard (1932-1993) was a Canadian musician, born in Kirkland Lake, Ontario. A fiddler, Paul Menard was a pioneer in the 1950s of country music in Quebec[1].

Biography

Paul Menard was the youngest boy of ten children born to Eglantine Agnes Perrier and Amedée Menard on March 16, 1932 in Kirkland Lake, Ontario. He started playing fiddle at age 6 when his brother Joe noticed his interest in music. Joe gave him his first violin. By age 9 Paul was performing with his brothers in Northern Ontario and Northern Quebec[2]. He had natural musical talent and was charismatic on stage, playing entirely by ear.

Paul Menard was a staple in the Quebec country music scene playing with Willie Lamothe and appearing on the Le Ranch à Willie.[3]

He played fiddle in a band formed by Dougie Trineer, The Hackamores[4].

Over the course of his career, he released more than 10 albums, many featuring his own compositions named after cherished family members such as La gigue d’Amedée, named for his father, and Alana’s Waltz, named for his granddaughter.

Paul recorded and produced on his own label, Menard Music Company (MMC).
