Paul Stephen Varszegi is the President and Founder of Veterans’ Rowing & Kayaking, Inc. and an honored member of the National Association of Distinguished Professionals.

He first entered the business world while still in college owning his first income property at the age of 18. He also worked for Prudential Insurance Company as a part-time special agent for three years. He was ranked 58th worldwide in 1983, 11th in 1984, 1st for new business written in 1985 and breaking Prudential’s historical record for selling the largest premium life insurance policy with an annual premium of $1.3 million.

He later created his company, Varson Corporation, which Paul turned it into a multimillion dollar real-estate organization that owned, managed, and constructed residential and commercial properties in two states. One of his most noteworthy achievements included the development of the largest condominium of that time in Greenwich, CT in 1986.

Paul is a certified pilot [1] and paralegal.

In 2013, while working with the West Haven, CT VA Healthcare facility, Paul started working with 6 problematic, injured veterans under his recreational rehabilitation adaptive rowing program. Paul saw a great need in assisting veterans with rehabilitation so he founded U.S. Veterans’ Rowing & Kayaking Foundation [2], a 501(c)(3) organization which has since grown nationally with over 16,000 members as of 2018. Dedicated to military veterans, the organization offers some of the most unique and exciting rowing and kayaking programs in the country. The non-profit [3], volunteer organization is headquartered in Trumbull, CT and supports veterans that suffer from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Traumatic Brain Injury, military amputees, blind/vision impaired, and spinal injuries. Their healing and wellness programs are designed especially to help veterans with various health issues. Relying completely on funding of donations, Mr. Varszegi is proud to have built an organization that was built for the betterment of others. Paul serves as the acting President and Executive Director of National Program Services. His goal is to have his USVRK Foundation become the governing body for all military rowing and kayaking in the United States and to work closely with the Department of Defense and the Veterans Administration in providing specialized training programs for the active duty military and retired veterans. Mr. Varszegi was the pioneer for creating an interactive rowing machine (TeleRowing) that uses internet video streaming. [4]

Paul is an injured U.S. Marine himself and is a life member of (DAV) Disabled American Veterans and (Am Vets) American Veterans, which organizations he supports. He was a former swimmer in his youth and a competitive trap shooter in the 80’s and traveled extensively to compete in tournament marathons.

Paul is the holder of multiple World Indoor Rowing Records on Concept 2 machines. [5] Paul's latest fitness accomplishment was to host a Guinness Book of World Record Challenges in which he set three (3) World Records in less than four (4) hours. They included a 50-yard underwater swim without fins and one breath; standing on his toes while balance on a Bocu Ball without coming down on his heels or falling off for 15-minutes followed by doing over 1500 sitting ab crunches using 80 lbs of weight for one (1) hour non-stop.[6] On Saturday November 3, 2018 Mr. Varszegi lead a group of senior veterans and immediate family members of his foundation to set a historic group world and American record with 21-participants. [7] The group set 30-combined records on the Concept 2 rowing machine. Mr. Varszegi's U.S. Veterans' Rowing & Kayaking Foundation now holds more rowing records than any other organization in the world, including their civilian competitor USRowing Association.
