Paul Williams (born 7 August 1992) is a New Zealand musician, comedian and television personality. Williams plays the role of Taskmaster's Assistant on Taskmaster NZ.[1]

Early life[edit]

Paul Williams grew up in Nelson, New Zealand, with his parents Gary and Roseanne,[2] his sister Maria, and his brother, Guy.

From the ages of 8 to 21 he used to perform musical theatre with The Nelson Youth Theatre Company.[3] Williams studied Musical Theatre at Whitireia Performance Centre in Wellington.[4]

As a teenager, Paul started writing comedy raps and makings music videos for them, which he posted on his YouTube channel. After a while he moved on from parodies and started writing original songs.[4]

Career[edit]

Paul has performed stand up across New Zealand and at international festivals, including The Edinburgh Festival Fringe and the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. He was nominated for the New Zealand's Billy T. Award for the country's best newcomer in 2017.[5]

He co-hosts with his brother the Advanced Analytics NBA Podcast, which was released in 2017.[6]

As a musician, he has released a few albums. His latest album, Surf Music, was released in 2018.[7] Euroleague, the 7th track on the album, was featured as soundtrack for James Acaster's stand up tour and comedy special Cold Lasagne Hate Myself 1999.[8][9]

In 2020, he started writing for Taskmaster NZ, which he co-hosts along with Jeremy Wells.[1] His brother was a contestant on the first season of the show.
