Pelle Sommansson
Pelle Sommansson is a Swedish businessman. He is a co-founder of Strava, a fitness tracking and social networking platform.[1] He is the nephew of Strava co-founder Michael Horvath.[2][3]
Early life and education
Sommansson studied engineering physics at Lund University, graduating with a Master of Science in 2006,[citation needed] with a master thesis on Deterministic lateral separation of cells.[4] He subsequently studied biophysics at Harvard University until 2007.[1]
Career
In 2009, Sommansson co-founded Strava alongside Mark Gainey, Michael Horvath, Davis Kitchel, Chris Donahue, and Mark Shaw.[3] Where he served as product lead during the platform's early development.[5]
After leaving Strava in 2010, Sommansson returned to Sweden and held data analytics and consulting roles at Klarna, Ernst & Young, and Boston Consulting Group.[1][6] In 2018, he joined INGKA Group, the largest IKEA franchisee, as Chief Data and Analytics Officer, and later as Chief Product Officer.[6]
In 2021, Sommansson joined the maritime technology company ZeroNorth, initially as Chief Product and AI Officer. He later served as Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President. At ZeroNorth, he focused on applying data analytics and AI to reduce fuel consumption and emissions in shipping. In a 2023 interview with McKinsey & Company, he discussed the use of digital twins and AI-enabled fuel models to optimize vessel performance.[6]
