Pendulum (sketch team)
Pendulum is a sketch comedy team founded in 2014 in Austin, Texas.
History
The original format of Pendulum[1] usually saw each sketch broken apart, as opposed to performing the sketches in their entirety. Feeling limited by the form, they ditched the unique structure for a more traditional sketch structure.
Each month, Pendulum writes a new show under a different theme. Some themes center on concrete topics, for example The Internet for the 2018 show "The Guide to a Better Tomorrow". Other themes are more abstract, such as "Oink Oink Daddy", a month of loose, unrelated sketches.
Themes
Pendulum has several recurring themes in sketches, including ghosts [2], 9/11, the destruction of capitalism, David Lynch, explicit sexuality, and Monster Mash.
Special Shows
Pendulum's first mainstage run of shows was titled "The Ascendant", a show that followed the former lives of the members of the titular cult [3].
Pendulum will follow up "The Ascendant" with a new mainstage titled "Class War", which will tackle political inequality, the proletariat vs bourgeoisie struggle, and socialism.
Since 2017, Pendulum has also produced a monologue character showcase titled "I Think You're Alone Now", where each member presents a monologue as opposed to a performed sketch.
