Pentacost was a Dutch a cappella group active between 1981 and 2007. The ensemble was dedicated to Renaissance music and they performed in a SATTB (soprano, alto, tenor, tenor, bass) formation, sitting in a semicircle facing the audience.

History[edit]

Members of the Eindhovens Kamerkoor[1] formed a quartet to sing close harmony under the name "Close Company". Soon the ensemble was expanded to a quintet managed by the Nederlands Impresariaat[2] (Dutch music Agency). To improve their performance they frequently attended the Deller Academy in Lacoste, hence the name: five (Penta) singers for La(cost)e. To find alternate and replacement singers often use was made of members of the Nederlands Kamerkoor[3].
Later the repertoire was expanded with contemporary music. Especially composed for Pentacost were "Cantique de Simeon" by Daan Manneke and "l'Albatros" by Mathieu Dijker
