People in space
There are currently seven people in Space.
Humans first traveled to space in 1961 with Soviet Yuri Gagarin being the first man in space aboard Vostok 1. Americans followed shortly afterwards with Alan Shepard aboard Freedom 7, also in 1961. China began contributing to humans in space when Yang Liwei spent 14 orbits aboard Shenzhou 5 in 2003. The most recent organisation to put humans into space is the private company Space Exploration Technologies with Crew Dragon Demo-2 in 2020, the first non-national level entity to achieve this.[1] Humans have had a continuous presence in space for 25 years and 239 days on the International Space Station (ISS).[2] The most people in Earth orbit (or beyond) at the same time is 14, which occurred in 2021,[3][4][5][6] with Expedition 65, Shenzhou 12 and Inspiration4 all in orbit at the same time. The previous record was 13, which occurred in 2009.[7]
