People of Note is a 2026 musical role-playing action indie game developed by Iridium Studios and published by Annapurna Interactive. It was released on pril 7, 2026 through Windows, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X and S. The game is dedicated to Jeb and Andrew Kurtzman who both passed away before the game’s release.
Gameplay and premise
People of Note puts a spin on the turn-based combat of classic RPG games with each battle and boss fight having an interactive musical performance based on one of the cast characters of the game. Players control its main lead, Cadence, who must put together a band of her own after having to be shut out by the judges of the Noteworthy Song Contest, similar to American Idol, in the world of Note. Travel from the Rock City of Durandis to the EDM City of Lumina in a quest to stop the Harmonic Convergence in wreaking havoc across the world’s musical energies. Each of her bandmates have a different style of music to use in combat, from the rock music of Fret to the DJ styled music of Synthia.
Development and release
In September 2025, Annapurna Interactive announced People of Note from Iridium Studios, makers of There Came an Echo and Before the Echo, as a publisher to their game during Tokyo Game Show.[1] It was later announced on February 18, 2026, that the game will be released on April 7.[2]
Reception
Lua error in Module:Video_game_wikidata at line 361: attempt to index field 'wikibase' (a nil value). People of Note received "generally favorable" reviews according to the review aggregation website Metacritic.[3][4][5][6] Review aggregator OpenCritic assessed that the game received "Strong" approval, being recommended by 67% of critics.[7]
Polygon gave a struggling review around the game balancing the battle music and the gameplay, but the message is hard to understand besides having a clear vision on delivering something meaningful and distinct.[14]
