People of the North is a television series that is based in Norway. It is produced by Tellus Works Television AS in Norway in association with American Public Television (APT) in the United States.[1] The first season of the series aired in 2023, while Season 2 aired in early 2025 and Season 3 aired in late 2025. The show airs primarily on PBS stations in the United States and can be streamed via PBS Passport.
The series is produced by the same production company as New Scandinavian Cooking, and as such has a similar look. In a similar vein, People of the North is produced and aimed towards audiences in the United States. The show has many similarities with New Scandinavian Cooking as it showcases the Nordic way of life to the American audience. Unlike New Scandinavian Cooking, People of the North focuses more on people rather than cooking.
Hosts
People of the North is hosted by three people with distinct backgrounds:[2]
- Arne Hjeltnes is the main host of the show. He is an established Norwegian television celebrity, author, politician, and business man.
- Frida Ronge is a Swedish chef, restaurateur and cookbook author. She is keen on blending both Nordic and Japanese flavors.[3]
- Stig Bareksten is an award-winning Norwegian distiller. He founded Oss Craft Distillery near Bergen.[4]
In addition, Sigrid Henjum appears in some episodes. She is an arctic explorer and author.
