Peppa Pig is the main character that appears on the British animated series of the same name. In the first season, her singing voice and giggling was cast by Lily Snowden-Fine; in the second season, she is voiced by Cecily Bloom from the Christmas special episode Peppa's Christmas until the first half of the sixth season, she was voiced by Harley Bird; from the second half of the sixth season to the penultimate episode of the eighth season[2], she was voiced by Amelie Bea Smith[3][4]; and since the last episode of the eighth season, she is currently voiced by Harriette Cox[5][6]; in Cartoon Network, she is voiced by Sydney Patrick in the US Tickle-U dub[1]; and as for Peppa Pig Tales, she is voiced by Tibby Radcliffe.

She is Mummy and Daddy Pig's daughter, George Pig and Evie Pig's older sister, Granny and Grandpa Pig's granddaughter, Uncle and Auntie Pig's paternal niece, Baby Alexander and Chloe Pig's female paternal cousin and Auntie Dottie Pig's maternal niece, also knowing that she has a large family.[citation needed]

Characteristics and personality

Peppa Pig is a 4-year old funny, cheeky and sometimes bossy light pink pig with pink cheeks and hot pink lips. She has small ears and a pig snout, as well as a curly tail. She is often shown wearing a red dress with a plain white nappy and a pair of black shoes. But she also enjoys dressing up, for example, when she wraps up warm in her winter scarf, coat, hat, boots, mittens and gloves in the winter and pops on her bright yellow raincoat, rain hat and boots, mainly when out jumping in muddy puddles.

Her hobbies include jumping in muddy puddles[7], playing with her teddy bear, Teddy[8], going to playgroup[9], playing the computer game Happy Mrs. Chicken[10], and playing dress up.[11] She wears a signature red dress and black shoes. When she jumps in puddles, she wears her golden boots (referred to as yellow by Suzy).[12] She is the only character to appear in every episode. Her best friend is Suzy Sheep[13], but once stopped being friends for a while.[14] Her best friend-in-law is confirmed to be Rebecca Rabbit.[15][16][17]

Appearances in other media

Books

In addition to Peppa Pig appearing in her own television show, she also appears in a series of books based on the same television show, one of which, Peppa Meets the Queen, was written to coincide with the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.[citation needed]

Video games

Peppa Pig also debuted her own video games starting on 27 November 2008, when her first video game, Peppa Pig: The Game, was released for the Nintendo DS and Wii, as well as made by Ubisoft and Asylum Entertainment. Then, on 22 October 2010, she debuted in her second game, which is called Peppa Pig: Fun and Games, being developed and published by Asylum Entertainment and P2 Games, and available for the Wii and Nintendo DS.[citation needed]

Then, on 25 March 2011, Peppa debuted in her third game, Peppa Pig: Theme Park Fun, which was released and available for the Nintendo DS and published by P2 Games, with Strawdog Studios as the developer.[18] On 22 October 2021, she debuted in her fourth game, which is called My Friend Peppa Pig, which was developed by Petoons Studio, published by Outright Games and available for for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and Windows, exactly 11 years after Peppa Pig: Fun and Games.[19][20]

And then, on 17 March 2023, Peppa debuted in her fifth and most recent game since then, which is Peppa Pig: World Adventures, which was also developed by Petoons Studio, published by Outright Game and available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Series S, Nintendo Switch and Windows.[21]

Reception and reviews

According to several review sites (including Northeastern Global News), this character, in addition to the British television show itself, has gained many fans and haters around the world. Since it began airing on several television channels, Peppa Pig has become the fourth most popular children's program in the world, inspiring toys, a theme park and many children to speak with a British accent. But she also inspires the ire of parents, some of whom have noticed that their children have adopted Peppa's bad manners. Examples of her misdeeds include hanging up on her best friend in anger, tormenting her little brother George and repeatedly mocking her father for his size and laziness. Her behavior is so notable that she has become a beloved character on the internet, even outside of the children's audience.[23]

According to the News18 website, the five reasons that make Peppa Pig the most loved character for kids and families are: learning through oin-tastic laughter, relatable family pigging-around shenanigans, imaginative muddily adventures that captivate, situations of a piggy with global appeal, and even life lessons wrapped in fun.[24]
