Perpule (Mobile App)

Perpule is a mobile app that facilitates self checkout and self-ordering solutions for offline stores, outlets, malls & cafeterias. The customers can use the app to discover products, scan barcodes, get all the offer and pricing information for the products and can also checkout and pay in the app itself.

The app is currently live with brands like HyperCITY, More, SPAR, Pantaloons, Big Bazaar, Spencers, Nilgiris, Heritage, KFC, Chaipoint, Pizzahut, etc. across India. It offer a next generation platform independent PoS for stores & outlets to further improve their efficiency and drive amalgamation of retail.

Available for users as a mobile application named Perpule Pay1, it enables shoppers to scan items they want to purchase and prepare their shopping cart. Today it has 100,000 active users in India across all retail chains.

History

Perpule is a Bangaluru based startup, founded by Abhinav Pathak, Saketh BSV, and Yogesh Ghaturle in September 2016. The three youngsters set out to create a payment platform which allows customers to scan barcodes at stores and make payments digitally, avoiding queues at payment counters.

Like various other startups, it had been difficult and challenging for them to develop the app because of the complexities involved. Many a times their pilot failed in the small stores at the time of testing. They had to convince the customers again and again to test the app. However, the app was finally ready.

With this, they started solving the long obvious problem of queues at shopping places. They saved the customer’s time and thus improved the overall experience. They started operating in Bangalore in few malls and are now planning to expand in 10 cities.

Funding

Perpule has raised a total of $5.3M in funding over 2 rounds. The startup went for seed funding in March 2017 and raised $650K from Kstart Capital, a Seed fund and sister concern of Kalaari Capital. [1] With their seed fund, the company expanded their team and boosted marketing efforts on consumer side.

It went went for Series A funding in November 2018 and raised $4.7 Mn in Series A funding from Prime Venture Partners, Kalaari Capital and Venture Highway.[2]

Achievements

In the year 2018, the four co-founders of Perpule - Abhinav Pathak, Saketh BSV, Yogesh Ghaturle, Sathya Narayanan, were listed in Forbes 30 under 30 in the Finance category.[3]
