Gershon graduated from Yale University magna cum laude. He enrolled in medical school, but dropped out and started in business with a sports bar in Manhattan. He earned a Master of Business Administration from the University of California, Berkeley, and worked in commercial mortgage finance for Nomura Holdings and Royal Bank of Scotland. He opened his own private equity company.
