Persecution
Shimun, Patriarch of the Church of the East, was imprisoned and executed by King Shapur II for refusing to worship the king or the sun. On the same day, around a hundred other Christians, including bishops and clergy, were also killed. The persecutions continued until Shapur's death in 379, during which an estimated 16,000 Assyrians were recorded killed, with many more unrecorded.[1] [2] [3] [4]
