Peter Bauman
Peter Bauman (also known as Monk Antony) is an American art writer, editor and curator specializing in artificial intelligence and digital art. He is the editor-in-chief of Le Random, an editorial platform focused on digital generative art.[1]
Career
Bauman began his career in technology for development research at the United Nations before starting to write about art and technology during the COVID-19 pandemic. Since 2022, he has served as editor-in-chief of Le Random, where he has published more than 125 articles, many authored by himself. He writes essays and conducts interviews with artists and figures in the digital art world.[2]
His work focuses on how art and emerging technologies impact society, with particular emphasis on deep learning, art history and contemporary art practices. His interviews have featured Marina Abramović, Hito Steyerl, Hans Ulrich Obrist, Maya Lin, Trevor Paglen, Beeple, and Holly Herndon & Mat Dryhurst.[3]
Bauman has been published in Taschen's On NFTs by Robert Alice.[4] He contributed to The Art Newspaper's July/August 2025, Davos 2026 and Art Basel Hong Kong 2026 print editions.[5] He has also been quoted as an expert source on AI art and semi-autonomous artists.[6] His editorial work at Le Random has been covered by Artnet News.[7]
Bauman sits on the Verse Curatorial Board[8] and art award juries, including the SOLO AI '25 Award.[9] Since 2025 he has served on the jury for the SIGGRAPH Distinguished Artist Award.[10] In 2026 he was invited to join The Lumen Prize 2026 International Selectors Committee.
He has curated shows, including feels like home at NFC Summit Lisbon and an upcoming show at Gazelli in London.[11]
Generative Art Timeline
Bauman created the Generative Art Timeline, a comprehensive historical documentation spanning 70,000 years of art created with systems thinking. The timeline consists of 120,000 words organized into 1,135 entries across 10 chronological chapters.[12] The project documents the history of generative art from its beginning. It starts with prehistoric cave-wall patterns and extends to contemporary blockchain art and artificial intelligence art practices.
Le Random Podcast
Bauman hosts the Le Random Podcast and YouTube channel, featuring conversations with artists and art world figures in AI, digital and generative art. The podcast has produced over 40 episodes featuring guests like Beeple, Rafael Lozano-Hemmer, Anna Ridler, Sofia Crespo, and Ian Goodfellow.[13] Bauman's Le Random videos have accompanied museum exhibitions, such as Electric Op at the Buffalo AKG Art Museum with Cory Arcangel.[14]
Public speaking and appearances
Bauman has presented at conferences including the Generative Art Summit in Berlin[15] and NFC Summit Lisbon (2024, 2025) on the history of generative art and neural networks in creative expression.[16] At the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A), he spoke about women pioneers in digital art.[17] He regularly leads panels, including at Artmeta's Digital Art Mile alongside Art Basel with Sougwen Chung, Feileacan Kirkbride McCormick, and Sofia Crespo.[18]
He has appeared as a guest on various podcasts, including Verse[19], Waiting To Be Signed[20] and SHLLR. He has discussing digital art on various media platforms, including interviews with Ahmad Moussa (Gorilla Sun)[21] and Justin Aversano's "Moments of the Unknown."
