Peter Keyes Burwen is an American music industry professional best known for his work as a songwriter, record producer, and music executive. "Peter Keyes went on to fill many roles in the commercial music biz in addition to acting as music producer and published songwriter, including general manager for the Music Mill Rehearsal Complex, Publisher of the Music Mill SOURCE magazine, and Producer for the Music Mill SOURCE television program"[1].

Biography

"Peter Keyes Burwen was raised in Danvers, Massachusetts north of Boston. His father Robert Burwen, was an avid trumpet player who developed and designed his own adjustable trumpet mouthpiece sold under the name Soloflex"[1]. Peter's uncle Richard Burwen is a "professional circuit design consultant"[2], designed and built his own "20,000 watt,169 speaker audio system"[2] in Lexington, Massachusetts.[2] Peter's sister is American illustrator Gail Burwen who illustrated the original cover of the bookThe Secret Life of Plants published in 1973. "Peter himself played the trumpet for some dozen years, was a member of the Danvers High School marching and concert bands.[3] It was during these years that he gained his knowledge of music theory. At the same time, Peter was busy creating his own original music on keyboards, synthesizers, piano, and guitars by ear"[1]. Peter wrote, recorded, and produced his first original song at age 16 in 1974.

Peter obtained a B.S. Administration of Law and Justice at the University of Massachusetts Lowell in 1983. "Peter put the horn down when finishing high school, and during his college years, was given the pseudonym "Peter Keyes" for his work in many a cover band as a keyboard player"[1]. While attending UML, Peter attended classes within the Sound Recording Technology Program.

Music Production

As a music producer, Peter Keyes Burwen has worked in professional recording studio environments such as Syncro Sound in Boston, Massachusetts and Music Mill Rehearsal Complex in Chelmsford, Massachusetts. Peter's music production experience spanned the use of 24 track reel to reel analog tape[8] and 24 track analog mixing consoles of the 1970s and 1980s, to present day Digital Audio Workstations (DAW)[9] and artificial intelligence (Ai).[10]

Music Business

As music executive, in 1989 Peter financed and built the Music Mill Rehearsal Complex[11], which provides production studios to bands and musicians.

As magazine publisher, Peter published the Music Mill SOURCE magazine,[12] a music industry trade magazine published in the 1990s.

As producer for the Music Mill SOURCE television program, Peter and the Music Mill SOURCE[13] production team interfaced with record labels, radio stations, & event coordinators from 1996-2004 featuring interviews with celebrity music performing artists.

As director of Physical Security,[14] Peter deployed security and access control systems at the Music Mill Rehearsal Complex.

"Today Peter still writes the songs, just as he always did in the beginning. He has a small project studio at his home in the Monadnock Mountains of New Hampshire, where he enjoys the quietness of this pristine setting so conducive to the creation of new music"[1].
