Peter Roche de Coppens

Peter Roche de Coppens (May 24, 1938 – June 12, 2012) was a Swiss-born sociologist and author of several books in English, French, and Italian, each ranging on the subjects of interpersonal relationships, theology, prayer, higher awareness (what de Coppens termed “The Human Skyscraper” model) and other topics within the field of Transpersonal Psychology. de Coppens' best known books include Divine Light and Fire and Divine Light and Love, both published by Element Books in the early 1990s. His English titles also include, The Invisible Temple and Prayer: The Royal Path of the Spiritual Tradition.

Born in Vevey, Switzerland, in 1938, de Coppens moved to the United States in the early 1960s. He studied Sociology at Columbia University, where he obtained his BA in 1965. He earned his PhD from Fordham University in 1973. He taught in the department of Sociology at East Stroudsburg University for 40 years, while also serving as Vice President of the International Institute Integral Human Studies, Montreal, from 1977–1997. After his death, East Stroudsburg instituted an annual Spirituality Lecture Series in de Coppens' name.

From 1991 until his death, de Coppens was the host of Soul Sculpture, a cable access television talk show in the Poconos region. His life work was chronicled in the biographical documentary Il Viaggio Essenziale: In Contro con Peter Roche de Coppens, completed in 2013 by Turin filmmaker Armando Rubino.

Peter Roche de Coppens died of an undisclosed illness in June 2012.
